The prophecy foretells the rise of evil intent on ruling all the kingdoms. For generations, Maea's family has met this foe and destroyed it before it could be unleashed. But now the power that her ancestors used to stop it in the past is lost. A sorcerer's spell has wiped Maea of all her memories, including the prophecy that can save her kingdom.
Maea is trapped at court, controlled by her foster mother who wants to use Maea's power to see into the future for her own gain. At court, secrets and betrayal are common fare and Maea's powers give anyone who controls her the advantage. With no one to trust, she can only rely on herself to break the curse. When she meets the charming prince Adair, she thinks he is just another courtier intent on using her. His reputation as a rogue proceeds him, and she has no intention of being his next conquest. But his offer to help her break the curse is too good to be passed up.
Together they uncover a plot that stretches back centuries and centers on Maea's family. Her quest has thrust Maea into the middle of a struggle for thrones. If she chooses the wrong side, she just may lose her head. With lives on the line, Maea must use her powers to find who to trust before it is too late.

If I could give this book three and a half stars, I would. The storyline is quite intriguing and the characters are relatively well fleshed out. The problem is Ms. Andrews writing. It's almost as if she's trying too hard to pull you into the story and the lives of the characters. Her sentence structure is odd at times and on numerous occasions, it pulled me completely out of the storyline to contemplate how her grammar was incorrect or how the descriptive way she phrased something was poorly or oddly worded. Still and all, if I come across the sequel and it isn't too terribly expensive, I will likely purchase it to continue the tale. I can only hope that the author's writing improves with time and experience. It is for that reason I would consider purchasing the sequel, but I won't make an effort to search out the next book.Product details

Diviner Prophecy Diviner Trilogy Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Nicolette Andrews Anna Castiglioni NicoleTrushinski Books Reviews
I didn't like this book much when I first started reading it. It begins rather abruptly and made me feel like I was dropped right into the middle of the story, in a bad kind of way. It was a little disorienting, and made it hard for me to connect with the main character, Maea. That being said, I grew to like the book better the more I read. Some of the characters kind of blur into each other, but the main ones are fairly distinct and interesting, and the story is decent for the most part.
My biggest problem with this book is that the entire plot is based around the fact that Maea has been stripped of her memories. Had that not happened, the entire book would not have happened, or at the least would have played out much differently. Now, that premise isn't bad on its own, it could even have made for a more interesting story, but the reason for the removal of her memories was flimsy. Especially since doing so had the exact opposite outcome of what certain characters wanted to have happen. I think I would have liked it better had Maea not been so clueless.
By the end I enjoyed the book well enough to give it three stars, but I haven't decided if I care enough to buy Book Two.
The writing was fairly nice to match the setting of the story and the plot was intriguing. However, I found the main character to be beyond annoying with her inconsistent attitudes that left me disappointed and enraged that such a creature would be chosen for the duties on her shoulders.
The first half of the book, I despised her seemingly immature personality (guess there are two kinds of 16-year-olds) and sassy way she acted. What I also didn't care for was the way she meekly- and even obediently -did things for the people she was suspicious of, and yet on the other hand challenged them to no end. She was almost like a dog with all bark and no bite. That, my darling, is extremely frustrating to me as a reader.
Johai was great mostly because he annoyed the hell out of her, which again, only reminds me of how many times she assumed so many things without proper weight to give them any merit. Her beliefs were very fickle and even when things were a bit obvious, she refused to believe them because of pride or fear of being hurt. You've no idea how many times I shouted at her to grow a pair and deal with the title she kept reminding everyone she was due. Yeah, DUE.
Another character I liked was Adair because of how great he was. That's all I will say. The other characters were alright but because of my state of annoyance, I couldn't very well enjoy them, let alone remember their names and motivations.
So to sum this up, the good points Jo; Adair; any other murderer and disgusting character in this book; the details; the plot twists; the setting.
And for the bad parts the main character whose name I won't bother straining to remember; the lengthy plot that never seemed to end; the predictability of the second half of the book.
I'm giving this three stars because I do see that this author has a style of writing details and a imagination of worlds that I do love, and it's only because of that, that I'd bother to read the second book and recommend this. I wouldn't recommend this book if you really hate annoying young characters because frankly, this book could do without irrational raters. Otherwise go for it and enjoy the wonders of politics and teenage girls.
I listened to this book on a road trip, and for the most part I enjoyed it. But by the end, I was more frustrated than I had been at the beginning. (And not just because it ends with a big cliffhanger.)
Due to her memory issues, I am not sure if we got to know the real Maea at all. I was intrigued by what little we learned about Johai, but it wasn’t enough. I really liked the princess, but again feel like there were layers to her that we never got to explore.
I am never fond of a love triangle; and also have a slight problem with the age differences. Maea is 16; Johai is 27; and I don’t think we are told how old Adair is, but he doesn’t seem young. And I have a real problem with Maea having any kind of a relationship with Adair when she knows, because she walked in on him, that he regularly meets women at parties and then has casual (lift their skirt) sex with them in back rooms. [Note the scene isn’t explicit, just disturbing]
What really killed it for me is that I absolutely can not understand how anyone would think that the plan which led to this whole mess was a good idea. All I can say is, “knowledge is power.”
Summary = There are the seeds of interesting characters here and maybe, with the “plan” and love triangle potentially out of the way, I might give Book 2 a chance.
Narration It was mostly ok, but there were multiple mispronounced words + at least 2 places where a short phrase was repeated -- Also, I don’t like between chapter music (I feel that it pulls you out of the story)
If I could give this book three and a half stars, I would. The storyline is quite intriguing and the characters are relatively well fleshed out. The problem is Ms. Andrews writing. It's almost as if she's trying too hard to pull you into the story and the lives of the characters.
